I have to admit that the very idea seems ridiculous to me. Also, there would be little reason to wash a bike; what would make it dirty? There are clean (swept, gritted etc) bikepaths, there are no cars to splash me, and there are mudguards and skirtguards and the like to keep anything on the road hitting me, or the rest of Annekehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13303232666607267415noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3102538965694240940.post-34153177208888306672008-12-10T07:32:00.000+01:002008-12-10T07:32:00.000+01:00Adrienne, there are more bikes than people in the ...Adrienne, there are more bikes than people in the Netherlands, so clearly a lot of people have more than one. However, generally the same town bike is used all year around.

These bikes are very robust. They have fully enclosed chains, hub brakes, hub gears (derailleurs are unreliable), mudguards (fenders) etc. and most importantly the good models have a paint job which is designed to David Hembrowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14543024940730663645noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3102538965694240940.post-5942660698987893112008-12-10T03:41:00.000+01:002008-12-10T03:41:00.000+01:00Do people there have 'salt bikes' like many people...Do people there have 'salt bikes' like many people in snowy parts of the US have 'salt cars', or is there just a lot of bike washing?Adrienne Johnsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16658593098911314756noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3102538965694240940.post-2625111584990145992008-12-09T23:59:00.000+01:002008-12-09T23:59:00.000+01:00Great pictures. In fact, it's pretty much the same as driving, except in a car you don't arrive at your destination all rosy-cheeked and grinning! Oh, and if you drove, you're invariably late, "because of the snow". :-PAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3102538965694240940.post-75303320565993602972008-12-09T22:45:00.000+01:002008-12-09T22:45:00.000+01:00I didn't really like the snow today, it was wet sn...I didn't really like the snow today, it was wet snow, and getting it in your eyes or on your face really stings! I broke my umbrella the other day, so I couldn't use it. I normally don't mind snow or rain, as long as my umbrella does its job. :)Annekehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13303232666607267415noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3102538965694240940.post-73111229427231446752008-12-09T19:46:00.000+01:002008-12-09T19:46:00.000+01:00We don' get a lot of snow here, but when we do I l...We don' get a lot of snow here, but when we do I like bicycling in it.
