It's very useful to know a good standard for path width.

In my city we are starting to build cycle infrastructure... and obviously with little Dutch influence. We have 2-way "separated bike lanes" on only one side of the street - where there's room for a 2m path on either side. The path might be 3m wide at best?
You are 100% protected ridingFinn Khttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08314947678910695504noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3102538965694240940.post-67898295873007492312012-05-18T19:24:36.298+02:002012-05-18T19:24:36.298+02:00It's simply appalling that when you go onto th...It's simply appalling that when you go onto the English wikipedia site for segregated cycling facilities, there's not a single Dutch cycle path on the page. All you get is a picture of a painted lane from Utrecht (and probably among the lower quality ones in that city). There's a picture showing a cycle track in Denmark, but whoever put it there could not have chosen a worst pictureUSbikenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3102538965694240940.post-84182619368103539512011-09-28T06:22:22.654+02:002011-09-28T06:22:22.654+02:00Brendan: Where I've measured them, pedestrian ...Brendan: Where I've measured them, pedestrian paths are usually two metres wide.David Hembrowhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14543024940730663645noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3102538965694240940.post-59694019996229318872011-09-28T03:31:28.551+02:002011-09-28T03:31:28.551+02:00How wide are the pedestrian paths along the 2.5m o...How wide are the pedestrian paths along the 2.5m one-way bike paths, or along the 4m-5m two way paths?Brendannoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3102538965694240940.post-21947587936663737312011-07-28T14:01:33.677+02:002011-07-28T14:01:33.677+02:00Daniel, I think you're talking about something...Daniel, I think you're talking about something else altogether. They even take account of the width of the bike + wobble factor of around 25cm. Particularly the one by the side of the A1 between Newark and Long Bennington. It's two-way, and if two cyclists meet, one has to go on the grass to get past. And the path has markings that tell you give way to the access to a derelict-looking electricity substation.Alex Taylorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04265722158377676719noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3102538965694240940.post-87367680932398108612011-06-30T23:18:50.097+02:002011-06-30T23:18:50.097+02:00Ahhhh, fixed gear...

As I understood the newer guide is just a revised version. But the contents of all of these guides remain quite mysterious as they are all rather expensive and almost none of the content is freely available. Some municipalities do publish their own version based on these guides Mark W.https://www.blogger.com/profile/07882028603632115187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3102538965694240940.post-62819944629858445502011-06-30T17:52:50.697+02:002011-06-30T17:52:50.697+02:00David, the "Tekenen voor de fiets" is qu...David, the "Tekenen voor de fiets" is quite old already.
